Le climat de Tenerife Le climat de Tenerife

Tenerife's climate is quite similar to all of the other islands of the Canary archipelago and has an all year round stable and mild climate. The North and the South of Tenerife have a complete different climatic conditions, this because of the old volcano the Teide which separates the island in two. There are more hours of sun all year in the South and more rainfall and higher humidity in the North, which explains the different landscapes and tones of the countryside, although both climates can be considered pleasant and stable during summer and winter.

Tenerife enjoys one of the world's best and diverse climates normally found only on huge continents. All around the year, the fresh and humid Trade Winds (Alisios) wafting over the Canary Islands keep the temperatures down to an average agreeably mild level of 22,3°C. The combination of these Trade Winds, the sea breeze and the refrigerant Gulf current produce warm but not suffocating summers and winters, with temperatures between 18°C and 22°C. This characteristic Canarian climate produces some unique situations: Snow falling on the hills of the volcano the Teide, while you may be enjoying the fantastic beaches only a few kilometres away. The island of Tenerife lies only a little way to the north of the Tropic of Cancer, however, the reasons for the gentle climate are the prevailing winds called trade winds, Passat winds or Alisios, the orography of the terrain itself and the cold Canary current, which ensures that the coasts and beaches of Tenerife always enjoy magnificent temperatures, sometimes above the temperature of the air.
